CONEYBURROW 'CRAZY SPORTS' 1985 LIFFORD/CLONLEIGH FESTIVAL
Lifford/Clonleigh "Crazy Sports' in the Coneyburrow Estate Lifford during the festival activities. I share below a poem written by Gearoid O Duinn based on a video I took of ‘The Coneyburrow Crazy Sports’ that I shared above of the 1985 Lifford/Clonleigh Festival. Gearoid has captured it all in verse here. Congratulations Gearoid what a great talent you are. CONEYBURROW CRAZY SPORTS The constant chitter chatter From young voices filled the air, The day enhanced by bright smiles Of the children that were there. Excitement building to the start Of the Crazy Race. Be they first, or be they last, Sure it would be no disgrace. The Festival in Lifford? T'was a quare event back then. The young ones in the video, Are now full grown women and men. There were no iPads, Nintendo Switches, Computer games or PS Fours. But they all had adventures though Together, playing outdoors. The film I was watching, Recalled memories down the years, Sometimes it brought laughter, And sometimes it brought tears, Faces of fine people, Appeared there now and then. Oh what I'd give, to sit and talk, With some of them again. Up the Coneyburrow Road, A place I once knew well. Twixt me and my relations, A few stories we could tell. It's a place of fond memories, And the old film brought them back. The sight of friends and neighbours, As they enjoyed the craic. It's ourselves now are the old ones, Though we were young, back in the day. Like old family members in that film, Now our hair has turned grey. Aye, the festival in Lifford, With its sports, bands and parade. Was a grand family gathering, If the truth were to be said. "Coneyburrow Crazy Sports" Was this motion pictures name, I know I'll sit and watch it, Again, and again, and again. For the memories that it's brought back, And the visions that I see, Well, they bring to mind, happy times, That mean all the world to me. ©Gearoid Ó Duinn 29/11/2019 Karla Mc Colgan Love that and l definitely dropped a tear when l saw Aunty Beckys face 💞 5y Reply Tommy Canning Brilliant Crazy poem 5y Reply Majella Wilson It was brilliant Packie he spent many a year playing in the Coneyburrow him and his 5 other brothers in there uncle Danny's house summer was always fun filled with so much memories of there visit's it was a packed house with 9 of us and 8 of the Dunne,s… See more 5y Reply Gearoid O Doinn Always a kind man with your comments Packie.
