Pike Fishing : How to Crimp Wire
Pike Fishing : How to Crimp Wire Trace making is one of the first skills that many pike fisherman want to master. Crimping wire is one of several ways of making traces and in this video Paul Garner demonstrates how he creates a strong connection in any wire. Crimping will work with all of the commonly available wires used for pike and zander fishing, including 7-strand, 19-strand and 49-strand wires in both coated and uncoated varieties. They key thing to remember is to use soft copper crimps that are the correct diameter. The wire should pass through the crimp twice without too much spare room. The steps to making Paul's crimped traces are as follows: 1. Cut off a length of wire (heat the area that you are going to cut if you are worried about the wire coming unravelled). 2. Bend make the last 2-inches (6cm) of the wire. If you already have hooks or a swivel on the other end then put a swivel on first. 3. Thread the loop in the end of the wire through the eye of the swivel or hook and then pass the swivel or hook through the loop in the wire. 4. Snug the wire down over the eye of the swivel or hook to lock it in place - the wire will now be almost fixed in place. 5. Thread the crimp over the ends of the wire, make sure it is a good fit. 6. Use a crimp tool with a tooth-like profile to squash the crimp. Ideally, the crimp tool should leave the ends of the crimp untouched. 7. Cut off any excess wire and cover with a Swivel Cover to tidy up the crimp. For more information and news please follow us on FaceBook and Instagram, or visit our website.
