remember when Sydney Sweeney was trending on Twitter for being ugly? for looking like a bloody MUPPET? Elle McPherson said it best when she said being ‘borderline ugly’ is a good thing. it makes you more versatile she said. and i agree. being borderline ugly in this day and age - with our current unrealistic, unachievable beauty standards is precisely what makes you pretty. memorable. unique. interesting to look at! sure being pretty is great. but being a human art work is arguable even better if you ask me. and trust me. i speak from experience. i KNOW i’d better fit the beauty standard with a smaller, straighter nose. i KNOW i’d be prettier with a more symmetrical face. bigger lips. better cheekbones. higher brows. and i COULD tweak myself to make all these changes. but what i’ve realised in my 35 years on this earth, is that i quite like being borderline ugly. it keeps people guessing. it’s interesting. am i pretty? am i not? who knows? beauty is subjective anyway. so if you’ve felt the pressure to be pretty or you’ve compared yourself to those uber stunning instagram influencer models - stop right these. you don’t need to change yourself. you don’t need to be a carbon copy of someone else. it is BECAUSE of your individual features that you are interesting to look at. striking. gorgeous. unique. MAGIC. in a world of beauty standards that can’t be met by nature - let’s make being borderline ugly the goal.
