The Hogar de Cristo Funeral Home has created the first historical archive documenting the most significant farewells of the last 70 years in Chilean history. "Funerals of Chile: Stories of Grand Farewells" features figures ranging from Gabriela Mistral and Eduardo Bonvallet to former presidents like Sebastián Piñera. "These farewells are a true reflection of our idiosyncrasies and reflect our culture and the unique way Chileans say goodbye to their loved ones. With respect, gratitude, and that popular humor, accompanying the procession en masse, following it on motorcycles, or waving Chilean flags, passing by the flower pergola, which is practically an institution at these farewells, we built this archive highlighting the 60 most outstanding farewells in Chile, which the Hogar de Cristo Funeral Home has witnessed over the years," says Juan Pablo Rogers, General Manager of the Hogar de Cristo Funeral Home. This remarkable initiative addresses the most significant farewells that Chile has given to poets and Nobel laureates in Literature, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, as well as presidents Jorge Alessandri, Patricio Aylwin, and Sebastián Piñera, and great athletes such as Sergio “Sapito” Livingstone, Raimundo Tupper, and Carlo de Gavardo, and renowned singers and actors like Víctor Jara and Ana González, the unforgettable “Desideria.” But it also records the heartfelt departures and funerals in which Funeraria Hogar de Cristo was present; such as the final farewell to the soldiers of Antuco, the tragic plane crash of the Chilean soccer team Green Cross, and the fateful LAN Chile Flight 107, which crashed on February 6, 1965, in Cajón del Maipo, claiming the lives of all 88 people on board. “‘Funerals in Chile: Stories of Grand Farewells’ is a pioneering project of its kind, seeking to document the most significant farewells in which Chile has come together to bid a final goodbye to prominent figures who have shaped its history. It is an archive that will be available to the community, but will also be open to the public so they can actively participate in these tributes by sharing videos, photos, images, and anecdotes they cherish from these farewells.
