Baler (Philippines), June 9 (EFE) - (Image: Federico Segarra) Philippine and Spanish authorities in the Asian country paid tribute this Saturday to the Spanish soldiers who resisted the siege of insurgent troops for almost a year in a church in Baler, in the northeast of the archipelago, known as the "last of the Philippines." This event commemorated this year's 20th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, generally celebrated on June 30, the day on which the first president of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo, ordered in 1899 that the surrendered soldiers be treated "as friends."
