How we grow Nerines for big autumn (fall) blooms

We have been growing our pot of Nerine Bowdenii in a large pot for a few years now and this year we have two larger clusters of rich pink flowers to enjoy for for a couple of months during September, October and probably well into November. Nerines are grown from bulbs which are available for buying / planting in late winter - early spring in garden centres. (You might also find them available as plants later in summer / autumn). They are great for adding some rich colour at the end of the year / fall season. They do require some protection from hard frosts - our variety 'Bowdenii' is probably the hardiest and we have never brought ours inside during any cold weather and it seems to be thriving. We would be more cautious if there was frosty weather over night and during the day (which means the bulb can't thaw out during the day) - as that more extreme cold would be more damaging. They are perfect for large pots, or could be grown in well drained soil in borders in warm / sunny spots.
