Scrambling Alberta’s Most Famous Mountain – Mount Yamnuska Alberta Canada | Extreme Hike

Hiking and Climbing the World’s Most Dangerous Mountain – Mount Yamnuska Alberta Canada Join us for an epic afternoon scrambling one of Alberta's most iconic mountains - Mount Yamnuska! Known by its original Stoney Nakoda name Îyâmnathka (meaning "flat-faced mountain"), this legendary peak was officially renamed Mount John Laurie in 1961, though locals still call it Yamnuska. Just 45 minutes from Calgary, this mountain sees heavy traffic year-round thanks to its accessibility and those warm chinook winds that make winter climbing possible. In this video, we tackle the famous scramble route - an incredible adventure featuring challenging scree sections and exposed chain climbing. *SAFETY NOTE:* This is a serious mountain. Hikers have died here. The combination of technical terrain, exposed scrambling, and dozens of people on the mountain at once creates real hazards. Stay alert, especially on the scree route beneath the massive limestone face where rockfall is a constant concern. *TRAIL STATS:* Difficulty: Hard (scree + chains) Hazards: Weather changes, route-finding, exposure, rockfall Best Season: Late April through early fall (snow-dependent) Bring plenty of water! *OTHER OPTIONS:* 115+ climbing routes on the Cambrian limestone face Raven's End: Family-friendly hike (older kids) to the cliff base - 3.5 km, 430 m elevation gain *PERMIT REQUIRED:* Kananaskis Conservation Pass (purchase before you go - annual pass recommended if you hike K-Country regularly) #mountyamnuska #yamnuska #yamnuskahike #yamnuskachains #canadahiking #albertahiking #mountainadventure #dangeroushike #backpackingcanada #hikingvlog #hikelife #adventurevlog #mountainclimb #scramblehike #canadatrail
