This session introduces the Clinical Registries Project and its role in strengthening how data is used to support better care across South Australia. It outlines the CEIH’s strategic intent to enhance coordination, improve data quality and maximise the value of new and existing registries. Professor Stephen McDonald, Clinical Lead of the Clinical Registries Project, discusses the role that registries play in monitoring outcomes, identifying variation and driving continuous improvement in care. He also outlines current work to strengthen registry capability across SA Health and embed registries more effectively into routine clinical practice. Speaker Bio: Professor Stephen McDonald, Clinical Lead, Clinical Registries Project Professor Stephen McDonald is a nephrologist and clinician-researcher. He is currently Director of the Adelaide EpiCentre, staff nephrologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Clinical Lead for Country Renal Services for South Australia and the Clinical Lead of the Renal Statewide Clinical Network. He has a long background in clinical registries. He has been Executive Officer of the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry for 20 years and is a founder and academic co-lead of the SAHMRI Registries Centre. He was the inaugural co-chair of the ACTA Registries Special Interest Group. His research interests centre around the epidemiology of renal disease and the use of Registry data to examine access to and outcomes of health care. He has been closely involved with the development of Registry based trials, and translation of Registry output into clinical practice.
