Roland JD-XA Pads: Part 1
Follow Imaginary Audience on Instagram / imaginary_audience Roland JD-XA demonstration showing some of its pads and the power of its two synth engines and crossover architecture. As most people know the JD-XA has a real analog engine and a digital engine. This video will dissect each patch showing the analog section in isolation (not each analog part because these are pads, therefore the analog section is polyphonic here), then solo each digital part, then all digital parts combined, and finally the analog and digital sections together. It's a good insight as to how complex some of the patches for JD-XA are. This synth can deliver some massive sounds, for example, you can create real analog pads (four voice polyphonic, and four parts!) with individual effects for each part, plus global effects, plus separate reverb and or delay. On top of this you can stack up to 64 voice polyphonic digital with four parts, each part consisting of three partials and each partial can have its own effects. Certain parts of this clip show the power of even just one digital part, for those who doubt the Supernatural engine, just one digital part can sound huge. So basically this all means you can have 16 parts total, 12 digital, 4 analog (with a total of 68 voice polyphony), whereby each part has been tweaked via the entire front panel of the JD-XA. And I'm only talking about pads/ polyphonic sounds here, this architecture also serves well as a massive monosynth if you want it to. I haven't even scratched the surface with programming since I have owned this thing but will for many years yet to come.
