A nova vida de Laís Souza

Almost five years after the accident that left the former athlete quadriplegic, Laís Souza talks about her new life Laís Souza tells how she had difficulty accepting her new condition after the accident that took away the movement of her arms and legs. Although she is recovering her sensitivity with physiotherapy sessions, the former athlete says that her greatest achievements have been in her personal life. "My victories are coming from other sources. I never imagined that I would have adrenaline again, that I would fall in love, or that someone would like me," she says. For two years, Laís has been dating Paula, who, extremely discreet, prefers to remain anonymous and not accompany her in interviews. "She is a very generous and genuine girl. Not everyone would date a quadriplegic, you know...", says Laís, who says she is recovering from a kind of crisis of turning 30, which she turned 30 last December. She has not lost hope of walking again, but says she is resigned to her “stagnant” condition and celebrates small moments of independence, such as responding to emails and messages on social media with the help of a pen attached to her mouth or using voice commands on her cell phone.
