Dr. Miles Smith: Religion and Republic | Collegium Lectures
New College Franklin Collegium Series Dr. Miles Smith presents "Religion and Republic." Drawing from his recent book, Dr. Smith will discuss the Protestant doctrine of vocation, and how important is in the way we do politics. Miles Smith is assistant professor of history at Hillsdale College. His academic interests are in the intellectual and religious history of the Atlantic World and the American South in the 19th century. He is the author of three books—Religion and Republic: Christian America from the Founding to the Civil War, That Blessed Liberty: Episcopal Bishops and the Development of the American Republic 1789-1860, and a forthcoming book on Protestantism and the Early Republic US Military. He writes regularly in popular and semi-popular outlets. He is married to Jaime, and grew up in Salisbury, North Carolina.
