The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is a watch I've wanted to introduce ever since this series began. However, I've never been able to get it adjusted. But now, just as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of its creation, it's finally happening. It really does feel like fate. The Royal Oak was born in 1972. At a time when luxury watches typically required precious metal cases, it was revolutionary to create a luxury model out of stainless steel. Gérald Genta's integrated case and bracelet design was also innovative and groundbreaking. This led to a succession of similar stainless steel models. A whole new genre, the "luxury sports watch," was born. In other words, the Royal Oak is the originator of the luxury sports watch that is now so popular worldwide. It is truly a masterpiece that will go down in horological history, and I'm truly thrilled to be able to introduce such an iconic model. Now then. This interview took place in the event space on the basement floor of the Audemars Piguet Boutique Ginza in Tokyo's Ginza district. The purpose of the interview was to talk about the Royal Oak while introducing the "You've Never Seen a Royal Oak Like This" exhibition, which is being held at the same venue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak. We also introduced a new Royal Oak model that is difficult to purchase and therefore rarely seen in person. There aren't many opportunities to see a new model on video, so this alone is a valuable opportunity. The exhibition will run until the end of the year, so please make time to visit.
