Salut d’amour (Liebesgruß) Op.12

One of the most important English composers, Edward Elgar was a Godly man with a thorough knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. He set many prominent events of the New Testament Gospels to music in his masterful and lengthy oratorios, The Apostles and The Kingdom. Sir Edward Elgar wrote the violin and piano version of this beloved piece for his wife, Caroline Alice Roberts. She came to him as a pupil in piano accompaniment in 1886, and in September 1888 they were engaged. This arrangement by the composer for violin and piano was first published in the following year bearing the dedication “a Carice”, a conflation of Mrs. Elgar’s names, which is the name of their daughter.
