One Step From Disaster... A Felling Lesson We Won't Forget

Today we're felling the first three trees in a six-tree removal project. While removing a wild cherry tree, I was walking my ground guy Isaiah through the felling process and explaining each step as we went. As the tree started to leave the stump, Isaiah became so focused on the lesson that he lost track of the bigger picture and accidentally walked directly into the danger zone. Fortunately, I caught it in time and yelled for him to move. He got clear, the tree landed where it was supposed to, and nobody was hurt. That moment rattled me more than I realized. On the next two trees, I wasn't as focused as I should have been, leading to a few small mistakes and reminders that mental distractions can follow you long after a close call. This video is a good reminder that tree work isn't just about making the right cuts—it's about maintaining situational awareness from start to finish. Whether you're the person running the saw or the person on the ground, losing focus for even a few seconds can have serious consequences. In the end, all three trees were safely removed, no property was damaged, and everyone went home in one piece. Sometimes those are the days that teach the biggest lessons.
