Wamba contra Ervigio | Pasajes de la Historia

414-711 AD For three centuries, the Visigoths dominated much of Europe, including Hispania. Between 414 and 711 AD, 33 Visigothic monarchs succeeded one another on the throne, not always peacefully. One of the last notable kings was Wamba, who ruled effectively for eight years, weakening the power of the aristocracy and clergy, and enacting popular laws that improved the quality of life for the people of Hispania. However, Wamba was the victim of a conspiracy led by Count Ervigio, who poisoned him with a hallucinogenic substance. Although Wamba survived, the Gothic custom that a monarch who came into contact with the Church could not reign again allowed Ervigio to assume the throne for seven uncertain years. Finally, the Muslims defeated the Visigoths at the Battle of Guadalete in 711, ending three centuries of Visigothic rule on the Iberian Peninsula. 🔗 'Passages of History', on the Onda Cero Podcast: https://www.ondacero.es/podcast/origi... #history #podcast #historypodcast #cebrián 🏛️ PASSAGES OF HISTORY, by Juan Antonio Cebrián Passages of History, the legendary segment created and narrated by Juan Antonio Cebrián on La rosa de los vientos (The Rose of the Winds), brings together some of the most listened-to historical stories on Spanish radio. 🎙️ Discover the lives of emperors, kings, explorers, warriors, and figures who changed the course of the world.
