How to Spend 36 Hours in St Gallen, Switzerland

Day Eight & Nine see Rosie and Karl spend 36 hours in St Gallen, on their last two days in Switzerland. We started by taking the Voralpen-Express train from Lucerne to St. Gallen. Arriving in the city, we went to our hotel and walked through Statdlounge (City Lounge) at Roter Platz. This public "living room" was designed by artist Pipilotti Rist and architect Carlos Martinez and opened in 2005. We had lunch at Bratwurst & Bowls then went on a walking tour with the tourist board. We started in the tourism office and learnt about the fashion industry of the city. Next was St Gallen Cathedral - a great baroque sacred structure. We then went into the Rococo Abbey Library, one of the oldest monastic libraries in the world, and probably the most gorgeous. Out into the rain, we explored the architecture of St Gallen and then went into the Textile Museum. We give a quick room tour and have an Aperol Spritz in the bar before heading out for food. Dinner was at Gaststuben zum Schlössli, with their 5 course tasting menu. Day 2, after the hotel breakfast, we went to the Culture Museum which had loads of interesting exhibits. Next door was the Museum of Art, both of them in interesting buildings. We took a fondue picnic from Kündig Feinkost cheese shop up to the Three Lakes (Drei Weieren). Kündig Feinkost pack a bag with everything you need to have a cheesy time, including bread and wine. We struggled getting the stove to stay lit, but got it all melted in the end. After walking 5 minutes we took the Mühleggbahn funicular back down to the old town and, after grabbing our bags from the hotel, went to the station taking our final Swiss train to Zurich.
