Black Magic Woman Series (Finale) Fairport Convention remain one of the most influential folk groups of all time, as well as among the most prolific- they’ve put 30 studio albums since 1967 and almost as many live and compilation ones. Plus with all the lineup changes, past members have put out volumes of their own stuff. One of those past members was Sandy Denny, possibly the greatest and most beloved British folk singer ever. She was only with Fairport for less than two years (and back for one album in 1975) and appeared on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 10th albums, but her hits are still their greatest hits. She died in 1978 at age 31 from a fall down the stairs. This particular track was originally a solo demo by Sandy that was then recorded by her and Fairport for their brief reunion album, 1975’s “Rising for the Moon.”
