ESTHER GUMEDE - EXCELLENCE IN ICT ENHANCED TECHNOLOGY TEACHING AND LEARNING - 25TH ANNUAL NTA AWARDS - 2025 SADTU Member Ntombi Gumede Shines at the National Teaching Awards The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) proudly salutes its member, Comrade Ntombi Gumede, for winning the Excellence in Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning (ICT) category at the 25th National Teaching Awards. Affectionately known as Mam G by her learners, Comrade Gumede teaches at Magaliesburg State School in the SADTU South West Region under Gauteng. The National Teaching Awards (NTA), hosted by the Department of Basic Education (DBE), honour the extraordinary efforts of educators who demonstrate excellence and dedication, often in challenging conditions. This year’s ceremony was held at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, celebrating teachers who continue to shape the nation’s future with passion and innovation. Comrade Gumede’s remarkable achievement earned her several prizes, including a car, laptop, and an international trip courtesy of the Chinese Embassy. Born and raised on a farm, her humble beginnings never deterred her from pursuing academic excellence. Today, at just 32 years old, she is a PhD candidate at the University of Johannesburg and serves as Head of Department at her school, a true embodiment of resilience, leadership and educational excellence. When SADTU TV visited Magaliesburg State School yesterday, the atmosphere was filled with pride and celebration. Colleagues, learners, and union members gathered to congratulate her on the prestigious achievement. Her recognition stands as powerful proof that SADTU members are committed, hardworking, and passionate professionals who play a vital role in advancing education in South Africa.
