The incentives behind photovoltaic systems are changing, and while on the one hand we're seeing the abandonment of Net Metering in favor of Dedicated Take-Back, the massive use of renewable energy communities is expected in the coming years. The concept of a Renewable Energy Community or Collective Self-Consumption Group is practically the same thing; the incentives and constraints differ. But what is self-consumption? Self-consumption is the percentage of electricity produced by the photovoltaic system and used within the home. How does a photovoltaic system work? A photovoltaic system has three components: 1. Modules that produce energy 2. Inverter that makes the energy usable 3. Production meter that records the energy produced by the photovoltaic system Multiple meters cannot be connected to the same photovoltaic system; only the associated meter can be connected, and consequently, even with Energy Communities, multiple photovoltaic systems cannot be connected to the same meter. If production exceeds consumption, I feed-in energy, and the ratio between free energy consumed by the home and electricity drawn from the grid is called self-sufficiency. The energy that is therefore self-consumed translates into economic savings, and the energy fed-in is monetized. The Renewable Energy Community aims to incentivize local energy use and prevent excessive energy from being injected. But what is the Renewable Energy Community? It's a legal entity, an association of people who can be energy consumers, energy producers, and prosumers (producers-consumers). These are the three entities that make up the energy community; it's an association of people living under the same medium-voltage substation. Energy is produced and consumed at a geolocalized level. This is the energy community. Encourage daytime consumption to achieve virtual community self-consumption. These associations are usually created by the municipality, but in any case, each association, group, or legal entity manages and defines the use of the funds collected. It is essential to emphasize three aspects: 1. Each member of the Energy Community is free to choose their own supplier. 2. The incentive has significant limitations during this period. With skyrocketing energy costs, the fixed value of the kWh incentivized by the energy community is reductive. While there is proportionality for Dedicated Withdrawal, the Energy Community currently has fixed values (0.11 cents). 3. Joining an energy community is free and can only generate benefits. What is another limitation of the Renewable Energy Community? To qualify as a prosumer, the photovoltaic system must be recent, no older than 10 years.
