I'm Deafblind and I Joined Critical Mass in Barcelona

What happens when you join one of the biggest community bike rides in the world as a blind traveler? In this video, I take part in Critical Mass in Spain, a massive cycling event that brings together riders of all ages, abilities, and bike styles. What started as an exciting adaptive cycling experience quickly turned into an adventure when our tandem bike chain broke before we could complete the ride! Have you ever tried adaptive cycling or ridden in a Critical Mass event? I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments! She is wearing a black tank top, and half of her hair is pulled up. Text on screen: Critical Mass A group of cyclists rides down the middle of a tree-lined street. Catarina is standing inside a train station, talking to the camera. She is wearing glasses and holding her white cane. The station has a warehouse-like feel and is filled with people preparing for the event. Tables with merchandise are set up throughout the space, and many different types of bicycles can be seen. Catarina enjoys a plate of rice and beans while attendees wait for the event to begin. Later, she stands near a large fan decorated with artwork and passes the time by doing some salsa dancing with her white cane. Catarina then heads outside and speaks with her tour guide. In the next scene, Catarina is wearing a bike helmet and sunglasses as she explains that the chain on the tandem bike has broken. She and her guide walk alongside the tandem bike and attempt to repair it, but the fix is unsuccessful. Instead, Catarina rides in a chair attachment connected to another cyclist's bike. While discussing adaptive cycling, Catarina references a previous video about tandem biking in Canada. The thumbnail from that video appears on screen. Catarina explains that riding a tandem bike can be challenging because it places a lot of pressure on the forearms. Footage shows her and her guide riding the tandem bike before the chain broke. The streets are filled with cyclists traveling together. Some riders carry boomboxes, some ride without helmets, and everyone appears to be enjoying the experience. At one point, the group stops to do the wave. The video ends with Catarina standing on the street after the event, reflecting on her experience. Text on screen: Would you try this adaptive activity?
