Watch Before Replacing your Upper Timing Cover or Gasket - MK6 VW GTI 2.0TSI

I guess it was my turn to have the infamous upper timing chain cover oil leak on my MK6 GTI ha. There are a few things I learned about this job that I found to be noteworthy: 1. IN MY OPINION, even though it seems like a huge hassle, I would recommend removing the engine mount and the engine bracket right from the start. The overall removal and installation process will take less time and frustration than it would if you left them in place and had to work around them. This will allow you to properly torque all the bolts for the cover which, out of all the videos I watched, I've only seen one person come close to doing the right way. It will also remove the headache of possibly stripping the lower dipstick tube bolt if you decided to remove it like I did. 2. For the engine bracket, if you decide to remove it, get yourself the "stubby" M12 triple square (linked below). 3. Don't skip the RTV Sealant. This is another thing that almost no one does.
