The slaughterer must be a Muslim. 2. The slaughter must be performed with a metal instrument, if possible. 3. The intention must be to slaughter by severing the jugular veins. 4. The animal must be facing the Qibla (direction of prayer) during slaughter. 5. The name of God must be invoked by the slaughterer at the beginning of the slaughter or immediately following it, according to custom. 6. The four main organs must be severed: the esophagus, the trachea, and the two jugular veins. Severing these organs must leave the cartilage (known locally as the "jawza") still attached to the neck. 7. The usual amount of blood must flow from the animal during the slaughter. 8. The animal must move after the slaughter is complete, even if only slightly.
