Germany's Strange Successors To A Forgotten Workhorse: Junkers Ju 252 & Ju 352
In this video, we take a look at the Junkers Ju 252 and Ju 352, a pair of German cargo and transport aircraft from World War II. We first talk about "doofy" aircraft designs, and what I think makes a design doofy. We then move to the relatively uncommon trimotor design, and Germany's pre-war Junkers Ju 52, a civilian airliner, transport, etc. We talk about how, for the early 1930's, it was a solid airliner, and how by 1938, Germany and various companies and countries wanted a new, better model. We talk about the initial successor design in the EF 77, which utterly failed to win any company or government over, and how it evolved into the Ju 252, a trimotor design with a more unique-looking engine layout. We talk about how it was to be a massive improvement over the Ju 52, how it performed well, and how it ended up not being accepted. We talk about the "advancement" in the Ju 352, which sought to use less vital material, and how it only saw very limited success. We end by talking about how more advanced doesn't mean better, and how you have to make what's appropriate.
