Records) -- Edison Winner Jazz Nationaal 2014 In het voorjaar van 2014 presenteert het Sebastiaan van Bavel Trio het debuutalbum As The Journey Begins. Voor dit album mag het trio, bestaande uit Sebastiaan van Bavel (piano), Remi Troost (drums) en Maciej Domaradzki (double bass) direct een Edison in ontvangst nemen. Tijdens het Edison-gala speelt het trio samen met het Metropole Orkest, dit blijkt het begin van een serie optredens met als hoogtepunt een optreden op het North Sea Jazz Festival. De nationale doorbraak van het trio is hiermee een feit. Het debuutalbum wordt ook door het Nederlandse jazzpubliek enthousiast ontvangen. Het album bevat acht van Van Bavels eigen composities, die thematisch op bepaalde momenten intelligent aan elkaar gelinkt zijn. Het trio combineert improvisatie en elementen uit de jazz-traditie met invloeden uit Indiase muziek en vormstructuren uit de klassieke muziek. Momenteel werkt het trio aan een nieuw album waarbij Indiase poëzie de basis vormt van de composities. Dit album, waarvoor het trio voor de gelegenheid zal worden uitgebreid met zangeres Vera Naus en saxofonist Jasper Blom, zal in de zomer van 2016 worden uitgebracht. In the spring of 2014 the Sebastiaan van Bavel Trio will present their debut-album: As The Journey Begins. For this debut-album the trio, consisting of Sebastiaan van Bavel (piano), Remi Troost (drums) and Maciej Domaradzki (double bass), is awarded the prestigious Edison. During the Edison-gala the trio performs one of Van Bavel’s originals, arranged by the composer himself, with the Metropole Orchestra. This is the beginning of a concert tour throughout the Netherlands with as a highlight the North Sea Jazz Festival; national recognition is a fact. The debut-album has met with positive reviews from critics and public alike. The album contains eight of Van Bavel’s own compositions, which are thematically connected. This results in a structure which resembles a symphony instead of a jazz-standard. Besides this the trio combines improvisation and elements from the jazz tradition with influences from Indian music. As we speak the trio is working on a new album on which Indian poetry will play a big role. This album, for which the trio will be expanded with singer Vera Naus and saxophone player Jasper Blom, will be released in the summer of 2016.
