In many cases, those artists have rode that identity — or lack thereof — all the way to the bank, and it's proven to be a uniquely effective tool for enhancing one’s musical identity. One of the newest bands to break through while embracing this dynamic has been Quebec’s Angine de Poitrine, an experimental math rock duo who both wear contrasting black and white polka dotted outfits while sporting some uh… creative papier-mâché masks. Comprised of double-necked guitarist, bassist and microtonal god Khn de Poitrine as well as drummer Klek de Poitrine, both members perform in outlandishly triangular clown-like attire with exceptionally long — and rather phallic-looking — noses (with Klek’s eyes visible through his mask’s mouth). Since their 2024 debut Vol. I, the duo have steadily built a high profile within Quebec’s musical ecosystem. But after a performance of theirs in France went viral in February, Khn and Klek have gone from kooky scene darlings to a global online sensation almost overnight — striking the perfect balance between outright weirdness and pure musical craftsmanship.
