When a Safe Hiking Trail Turn Deadly | Routeburn Track
In July 2016, Czech hiker Ondrej Petr died of hypothermia after becoming lost in deep snow on New Zealand's Routeburn Track. His partner, Pavlina Pizova, survived by sheltering in a hut for nearly a month before being rescued. The tragedy shows the dangers of ill-prepared, off-season alpine hiking.
