Three days, one journey, zero plan. Mona Vetsch has no idea where she's ending up. When the journey ends in front of a barracks, she swallows hard. In the first episode of Mona in the Middle of 2019, Mona finds herself in the RS (Recruitment Service). The three days are no walk in the park for recruit Vetsch. Recruit Vetsch, therefore! The shock could hardly be greater. Dressed in field green, with a heavy backpack and assault rifle, Mona Vetsch lands at Infantry Recruit School 11 on the Breitfeld training ground. Her fellow recruits are already spending their fourth week there in the military. And recruit Vetsch has a lot of catching up to do: instructions and rules of conduct are bombarding her. Nothing is unregulated; it's all about perfect order and uniformity. A foreign world for Mona Vetsch. Her time in the RS was a life-changing experience for her – not just in terms of strength, but also in terms of lack of sleep, marching, shooting training, and sleeping in a sleeping bag in sub-zero temperatures. During the three days, she also experienced the much-vaunted camaraderie: whether at Zwipf (snack snacks) or out and about, she quickly gained the trust of recruits and sergeants and learned a lot about the joys and frustrations of being in the army.
