Behind me is the Midwick view estates, a landmark of Monterey Park. Peter N. Snyder, a big developer in the early 1900s proposed a garden community that was designed to rival Bel-Air and Beverly Hills. The initial plan was Spanish and Mediterranean-style homes Unfortunately the great depression stopped its tracks and we saw a resurgent of different developers come in and build the area after. This is just the remnants of that. The heart and Soul of Monterey Park is Barnes Park. It's a recently remodeled 17-acre park which is located right next to the Monterey Park Police Station, Fire Department and City Hall, and Library. The park features a amphitheater, swimming pool, indoor gym, tennis and pickle ball court, and a lot more. But, the most important feature is that it's a venue for the biggest events around Monterey Park. The Cinco De Mayo Event, the Cherry Blossom Festival, Movie Night at the Park, and even the City’s Birthday Celebration. In the Mornings you’ll see this park come alive with the Elder Community Practicing Tai Chi and a lot of others using the track and new fitness areas.
