Hi, Nurse Shiki! This time, I'll be sharing tips for new nurses on how to secure an IV line! Establishing an IV line is the process of securing a peripheral vein for an IV drip. Simply put, it involves placing a soft catheter into the vein. This process is actually more difficult than drawing blood. Because the catheter is inside the vein, you have to avoid joints, and the range of vein options is narrower than with blood draws. You also have to consider the length of the catheter, so it's a really tricky procedure at first. So, as someone who gets excited about finding an IV line, I'll be sharing some tips to help you improve your IV line skills!
