Inside Jeffery Lee's Death Row Life | The Most Peaceful Inmate in America's Most Violent Prison

In 1998, Jeffery Lee walked into a pawn shop in rural Alabama and committed a crime that ended two lives and shattered a third. A jury heard the evidence, deliberated, and voted 7 to 5 to spare his life. A single elected judge overruled them and sentenced him to death. That practice — judicial override — was abolished by Alabama itself in 2017. Jeffery Lee is still on death row. For over 25 years, he has lived inside Holman Correctional Facility — a prison so dangerous it has been called the Slaughterhouse. A place where guards are outnumbered, violence is daily, and everyone carries a knife. In that same prison, Jeffery Lee has not committed a single violent infraction. Not one. In 25 years. He became a Kairos ministry leader. An assistant chaplain. A mentor to other death row inmates. The Secretary and Treasurer of Project Hope to Abolish the Death Penalty — a board run by the men condemned to die inside Holman's walls. This is his story. And it raises questions that don't have clean answers. 🔔 Subscribe for weekly true crime documentaries 👇 Tell us in the comments — what does justice look like when the law that condemned a man has already been abolished?
