Serge Prokofiev ‘Alexander Nevsky’ – Leonard Slatkin conducts
In 2000, the BBC SO celebrated its 70th Anniversary with a birthday concert in London’s Barbican Hall under the direction of its new chief conductor Leonard Slatkin. The programme concluded with Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky, of which the BBC Symphony Orchestra had given the British premiere in 1941. The mezzo-soprano in ‘The Field of the Dead’ was Michelle DeYoung.
