Featuring an iconic design, and revolutionary packaging, the Type 1 helped Volkswagen become one of the world's most well known car brands. In 1998, Volkswagen introduced the New Beetle. Styled to herald the Type 1, the New Beetle modernized the famous car for the new millennium. In 2012, a new take on the Beetle was introduced, known as the A5 Beetle for the platform it uses in order to differentiate it from previous models. Beetle production ended in 2019 with no current plans for a folow up model.
