This 80s Top 10 Will Make You Wonder… What In The HELL Happened to Music? | Professor of Rock

Up next we’re going to Go Go behind the top 10 songs of this VERY same week from the year 1987. One of my favorite years in music. 37 years ago. We are going to re-rank them based on their performance since then and you’ll be shocked at what artists we have interviews with trickled in. Who do you think has the #1 song? George Michael, Guns N Roses, Sting, or Belinda Carlisle, Let’s find out… Well, we’re going to find out that Payola stopped a couple of great bands from going top 10 like Pink Floyd’s Learning to Fly and the Cure's Just Like Heaven. But today we right that wrong and we see what the real top 10 is. Today on the Hit Song Redux. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Executive Producer Brandon Fugal Honorary Producers Stan Summay, MG, Dave Fritz, David Roche, Bob Bell ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out my Hand Picked Selection Below Professor's Store Van Halen OU812 Vinyl Album https://amzn.to/3tLsII2 The 80s Collection https://amzn.to/3mAekOq 100 Best Selling Albums https://amzn.to/3h3qZX9 Ultimate History of 80s Teen Movie https://amzn.to/3ifjdKQ 80s to 90s VHS Video Cover Art https://amzn.to/2QXzmIX Totally Awesome 80s A Lexicon https://amzn.to/3h4ilrk Best In Ear Headphones (I Use These Every Day) https://amzn.to/2ZcTlIl ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Out The Professor of Rock Merch Store -http://bit.ly/ProfessorMerch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Out Patron Benefits http://bit.ly/ProfessorofRockVIPFan Help out the Channel by purchasing your albums through our links! It’s time for another edition of our show the Hit Song Redux where we travel back to a week in the golden era of rock and roll and re-rank the top 10 songs of THAT SPECIFIC week based on their legacy since THEIR PEAK POSITION ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100, with your stories and dedications. This program is dedicated to my hero Casey Kasem… this time we travel back to the end this week in November of 1987 We have even yet another cool twist to shake things up this week… I think you’ll really dig it. Before we go into the top ten to get us in the nostalgic mood, the top movies at the box office for this week were: 3 Men and a Baby with Tom Selleck Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg, as well as John Hughes classic comedy Planes Trains and Automobiles and the Micheal Douglas Glenn Close thriller Fatal Attraction, I won’t be ignored. On TV Thursday nights on NBC were all the rage with 4 of the top 7 TV shows including the top 3 with The Cosby Show, A Different World, Cheers, and Night Court. Coming in at #10. 1987 was the year that we all had to take sides. You had to decide what team you were on. Team Debbie or Team Tiffany. I’m talking about teen-boppers Debbie Gibson or Tiffany, we get our first taste of the fight on the charts with the #10 hit Shake Your Love by Debbie Gibson. I had a crush on both and I’m sure you did too. Here’s What Debbie Gibson had to say about her explosion onto the charts in 87: My sister was obsessed with Debbie Gibson, She even had the Electric Youth Perfume. Shake Your Love has had about 6 million streams since it’s peak performance. In at #9, the follow-up hit to this band's electrifying #1 hit I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight. It’s Cutting Crew with the 80s hidden gem I’ve Been in Love Before. Here’s what lead singer Nick Van Edde said about writing the song. At the #8 position, it’s the man who started a new wave band that transcended the genre and became the biggest band of the early 80s with the biggest song of 83. He went solo in 85. It’s Sting with We’ll Be Together from his sophomore album Nothing Like the Sun. Sting said about the song "We’ll Be Together is funny because it was written as a beer commercial for a Japanese company
