It is said to be the former residence of Xia Yan, Grand Secretary of the Ming Court, hence the hotel’s name “Prime Minister’s Mansion”. This 500-year-old Huizhou ancient architecture stands entirely on traditional mortise-and-tenon joints without a single nail, supported by sixty-five golden nanmu beams and pillars polished smooth by centuries of time. The stone archway carved with the characters “Passed the Palace Examination” retains crisp textures; intricate wood carvings of flowers, birds, landscapes and scholar figures layer the beams and lintels, while the blue brick floors exude a steady, solemn aura. The moment you step inside, the faint natural scent of aged timber and stone wraps around you, instantly separating you from the bustle of modern life and transporting you to the tranquil dwelling of a Ming literary official. The lobby follows a traditional three-courtyard layout, spacious and layered. A guqin performance area is regularly set at the hall’s center, where musicians sit before the zither to play.
