Because on one hand, along with the decrease in arrival in the markets, the stock with the producers has also decreased. On the other hand, about 7/8 months are left for the new crop to arrive. Kalonji is mainly produced in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. During the current season, the production of Kalonji in Gujarat was higher than last year, but the production in Madhya Pradesh has been less. Overall, this year the total production of Kalonji in the country is estimated to be 2.25/2.50 lakh bags (each bag is 100 kg). The yield was the same last year as well, in the year 2023 the production was 3.5/4 lakh bags. During the current season, although the yield is believed to be equal to last year, but due to less outstanding stock, the total availability will be less. During the year 2024, apart from the production of 2.25/2.50 lakh bags, the outstanding stock was 1.25/1.50 lakh bags, whereas during the current season, the outstanding stock at the time of new crop was considered to be 30/40 thousand bags. During the current season, the total availability will be around 3 lakh bags. Due to which there is no possibility of slowdown in the prices of Kalonji. It is expected that in the coming days, the demand for Kalonji will gradually come out and the prices will also increase.
