Interview met Gerrit van der Waal Orgelbouwer. Interviewer: Jule Jeurissen In dit interview vertelt Gerrit over zijn liefde voor muziek en de techniek van het pijporgel en speelt hij op het Walckerorgel in de Sint Petruskerk in Eindhoven. Gerrit van der Waal, bestuurslid van Stichting Orgelbehoud, komt uit een muziekminnend gezin en begon op zijn zesde met viool spelen. Door zijn fascinatie voor het pijporgel, besloot hij als elfjarige van muziekinstrument te wisselen. Hij speelde in de Gerardus Majellakerk in Eindhoven. Daar kwam hij ook in contact met de firma Vermeulen Orgelbouw. Mede door zijn liefde voor techniek begon hij te assisteren bij het onderhoud van het orgel. Het leverde hem zelfs een baan op bij de firma en hij leerde er als gezel het vak van orgelbouwer. Eindmontage gedaan in Eindhoven, 4-12-2019. Bevordering van bekendheid van orgels, onder andere doch niet uitsluitend middels het organiseren van orgelconcerten en rondleidingen. Interviewer: Jule Jeurissen In this interview, Gerrit talks about his love for music and the technology of the pipe organ, and plays the Walcker organ in the St. Peter's Church in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Gerrit van der Waal, a board member of the Organ Preservation Foundation, comes from a music-loving family and started playing the violin at the age of six. Due to his fascination with the pipe organ, he decided to switch musical instruments at the age of eleven. He played in the Gerardus Majella Church in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. There, he also came into contact with the firm Vermeulen Organ Builders. Partly due to his love for technology, he began assisting with the maintenance of the organ. This even landed him a job at the firm, where he learned the trade of organ builder. ORGELBEHOUD FOUNDATION The foundation primarily aims to share its love for this special and endangered musical instrument. The foundation is secular and operates on a non-profit basis. Any proceeds benefit the preservation of pipe organs. OBJECTIVES Rescuing, restoring, maintaining, tuning, and preserving pipe organs. Promoting awareness of organs, including but not exclusively through the organization of organ concerts and tours.
