PURPOSE OF THE COURSE: One of the perennial challenges and most misunderstood regions of portraiture is the cheekbone area - known anatomically as the Zygomatic Arch. This course has been designed to concentrate on Zygomatic morphology in head drawing. As a constructive cornerstone of the head's architecture, our focus includes the elusive facial landmarking associated with the entire region of Zygoma. Students will gain an uncommon level of understanding about its enigmatic topography. By learning to “see” zygomatic spatial dynamics through pencil drawing, students will compare and contrast the cheekbone in art history and artistic anatomy. Students will learn to decipher it in life drawing through a set of specific exercises in this workshop. All skill levels are welcome. Beginning with a lecture, the greater cheekbone is drawn and thoroughly demonstrated. The human skull serves as our catalyst, through which light on form is applied. By transforming the Zygomatic Staple into a “feature,” students should emerge from this course enabled by a succinct insight. The course, encompassing more than 7 hours of quality content, has been created to provide students with sufficient time to develop and contemplate their drawing exercises, and to produce a comprehensive final project.
