TP Pétrologie L2 - Les classifications des roches sédimentaires (par Mme Ruault-Djerrab)

This video is intended for students in the common core of Geology, or any other interested public (high school students for example). It presents in a very simple way the different classifications used to name sedimentary rocks (chemical or mineralogical, dimensional and finally textural classifications with the Folk and Dunham classifications). The video ends with some examples of thin sections of carbonates. Small remark concerning the dimensional classifications: the limit between the class of arenites and that of lutites is fixed in my video at 62 µm. This is a simplification, as it is actually 1/16 mm, or 62.5 µm. You can therefore also find a limit of 63 µm in certain works. This video was put online as part of the Sedimentary Rock Petrology practical work for the 2nd year of the STU License at the University of Guelma in Algeria (Teacher: Ms. Ruault-Djerrab). Video highlights: 0:07: Introduction. 2:05: Dimensional classifications (for detrital rocks). 4:36: Textural classifications, first of Folk then of Dunham (for carbonate rocks). 9:41: Some examples of thin sections. 13:22: Conclusion.
