According to officials, nearly 50 rounds were fired when the forest team attempted to stop the construction of houses on land claimed to be within Assam's territory. As per East Sonitpur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Champak Deka, the incident took place in the Behali–Borgang forest area during an operation to prevent alleged encroachment on Assam forest land.
