Die Liebe als einzige Lösung Etty Hillesum

This film allows us to discover the extraordinary message of the life of Etty Hillesum, this young Dutch Jewish woman who, during the harrowing years in Europe from 1941 to 1943, shares with us her spiritual experiences—luminous and profound experiences! Realizing the fate to which she was condemned as a Jewish victim of Nazi persecution, which she herself described as "total, widespread, and encompassing all of Europe," Etty witnesses an extraordinary discovery: the presence of God in her innermost being! This discovery is all the more remarkable because nothing in her previous life seemed to prepare Etty for it. Etty had received no religious education; her message was transmitted outside any dogmatic or institutional form. A writer of authentic and poignant originality, Etty wrote a diary of her personal journey for two years, beginning on March 8, 1941. Extensive excerpts and parts of the correspondence were published in the 1980s under the title The Thinking Heart and translated into 14 languages. Her writings illustrate her development, which led her to gradually abandon a rather chaotic life for a life of communion with God and self-giving. Because Etty understood that love was the "only solution," she refused to hide or flee when the Nazi occupiers gathered Dutch Jews at the Westerbork camp for transport to Auschwitz. She decided to go to the death camps to alleviate the despair of all those suffering: she wanted to be "balm for so many wounds" and "accompany God into this darkness." On September 15, 1943, she was forced to board the eerie transport to Auschwitz with her entire family and hundreds of other Jews. She died there on November 30, 1943. She was 29 years old. * * Etty Hillesum's message is based on many experiences and events. Several passages are mentioned in this film: The action of the Spirit through guidance from psychotherapist Julius Spier; The grace of inner fulfillment through the Holy Spirit that she experienced; Her image of a "disarmed" God who needs help: "I will help you, my God, so that you do not abandon me"; Her complete refusal of hatred; Her acceptance of real tragedy and her trust in God in the face of the inevitable; Her literary work, which arises from listening to oneself, without complacency and faithful to the "whispers" of the Spirit. This film was produced by the Chemin Neuf Community via the "Net for God" international prayer network. Pour plus d'informations: www.netforgod.tv Pour nous contacter: [email protected]
