My Journey: From L Phainom to Leadership Thirteen years ago, I left my humble village, L Phainom in Churachandpur District, for Shillong with a dream to study. By God's grace, I completed my BA, MA, and LLB at NEHU. The path wasn’t easy. After my Master’s, my family was struggling too. I had to survive on my own to pay my fees and keep going. I even delivered for Swiggy in secret, too shy to let my society find out. There were bitter days — nights I slept on an empty stomach — but I held on, believing “these days will one day pass.” Through it all, three things carried me: God’s guidance, my parents’ love, and my mother’s prayers. Her prayers became my spiritual strength. While fighting those battles, my heart found purpose in church. From my first year in Shillong, I never missed a service. I joined Sunday School as a teacher because I love children and wanted to help them put God first. For 7–8 years, I served KWS Shillong Children Sunday School as a teacher, Secretary, and Superintendent. I also spent 4 years in the KWS Shillong Choir, pouring my love for singing into worship. Four years ago, my journey took another turn. I was elected as a leader in Kuki Inpi Meghalaya and have served for two consecutive terms. I dedicated myself selflessly to the welfare of the Kuki community in Shillong. Though I was younger than most of my colleagues, and despite criticism, we kept moving — working so love and harmony would grow in our society. In March 2026, I was re-elected as Nam Inpi Lhangsam by Kuki Nam Inpi (Kumpi) at the General Assembly in Gauhati. None of this is my doing alone. It is God who guided me in every sphere of life. And today, He has blessed me with my greatest gift — my life partner, my beautiful wife Dr. Chongboi, who supports me in everything. From a village boy with empty pockets to a community leader with a full heart — this is my story of faith, struggle, and grace.
