REAL SOCIEDAD CAMPEON LIGA 1980-81 / RNE Tablero Deportivo

On April 26, 1981, Real Sociedad won their first ever league title after a 2-2 draw against Sporting Gijón at El Molinón stadium. The Txuri-urdin (Real Sociedad) needed just one point on the final matchday to mathematically secure the league championship. When all seemed lost, Jesús Mari Zamora scored the equalizer in the last minute of the match, thus clinching Real Sociedad's first ever league title. This is how Alfonso Azuara, a journalist for Radio Nacional de España's Tablero Deportivo program, experienced the final minutes of the game.
