From scoring 5 CGPA in graduation to IIM Calcutta

My name means peace, I finally have it now. The journey to Joka was not easy. I was in Class 8 when I first heard about IIMs. This dream has been eight years in the making. I am the first person in my direct family to get into an IIM- to be part of the oldest is just a bonus. When I moved to Delhi, I experienced what exposure felt like. I also realized I was behind. So I worked on myself, on my interpersonal skills. Each day, I tried to be better. Each day was one step closer to today. I was never a class topper, my story is of an average guy who dreamt big. But I had something which I knew would be crucial to my success- resilience. Getting into IIM Calcutta is what I would call poetic justice. I had a black spot in my resume, a five-pointer aiming for the Holy Trinity. IIM Calcutta is known to give a second chance to candidates and I needed this second chance. My first CAT attempt was in 2019. I was shortlisted for IIM-Kozhikode. May 14, 2020, was the day I was rejected. Not my first rejection, but I believe the toughest one. I was heartbroken. I could not sleep that night. Every day brings new hope, but to restart a journey you need something more than hope. My CAT 2020 was miserable and I was on the verge to join another college in Pune that’s where I met my mentor, my boss, Navneet Singh. He gave me newfound hope, supported me, gave me a good environment to work and also let me follow my dream. I made a promise to my family about cracking a dream convert and convinced them go give me time. I knew this was my last chance and I prepared like one. Five hours of sleep for six months was worth it. The CAT results were out and I was expecting calls from top IIMs. This time before the calls were out, I knew I had to be prepared and that is where admin1 of btribe came in. During our first conversation and something inside me knew that he would help me, would not guarantee a convert, but would help me. I met some amazing people at the Tribe. People, Humans, Aspirants, living to realize the same dream I did. Admin2 of btribe was a breath of fresh air. I fell in love with the people. Good things happen when you think positively and I received a double dose of unexpected calls from IIM-Calcutta and IIM-Ahmedabad. My last shot was my best shot. Now, when the dust has settled, I think I gave a good account of myself. I am a Jokar now. But before being a Jokar, I was an aspirant, just like any other aspirant who dreamed big. Just like any other aspirant, who has had breakdowns, has doubted himself and then picked up. If you’re reading this, know that your story is very similar to mine. If I can, you can.
