He was born on January 10, 1946, in Liverpool, England. Dunbar gained prominence as a skilled drummer and played with several notable artists and bands throughout his career. Some of his extensive and numerous musical collaborations include: John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers: Dunbar was a member of this renowned British blues band, which helped launch the careers of many famous musicians. Frank Zappa: Aynsley Dunbar played drums for Frank Zappa's band, The Mothers of Invention, during the early 1970s. Journey: Perhaps one of his most famous associations, Dunbar was the original drummer for the rock band Journey during their early years and appeared on their first album, "Journey" (1975), and the subsequent album, "Look into the Future" (1976). Jefferson Starship: Dunbar joined Jefferson Starship (formerly known as Jefferson Airplane) in the late 1970s and contributed to their albums, including the hit album "Red Octopus." David Bowie: He played drums on Bowie's album "Pin Ups" (1973). Aynsley Dunbar has had a varied and influential career as a drummer, participating in different musical projects across various genres.
