I love tech gadgets and anything that will make life easier for baristas and get that perfect (or near perfect) coffee consistently. So the Latte Art Factory (LAF) has accomplished an amazing achievement when it comes to delivering instant milk that's perfectly silky and stretched to the right level anyone desires. But does it replace the need for having an extra barista? I think it might... Literally, you can press a button and get the exact amount of milk you need for you pour, perfectly steamed to the desired temperature and thickness of foam. Because its not actually steaming milk, it instantly produces ready to use milk at the press of a button. I was blown away at the idea of putting a customer's regular cappuccino cup under the spout and pressing go watching it fill the cup up with just enough milk so I could just sprinkle on some choc powder and hand it to the customer! However, as great as that is for the business, it does bring into question the need for having a barista steam milk. Sure, it only holds two milks and most cafes these days offer anywhere from 3-8 different types, but in the case of my cafe, I have to employ an extra barista on our busiest days to help on milk but this $10k machine eliminates that need.
