2. Subordinate but Equal - Pr. Stephen Bohr - They Lived Happily Ever After
Order the complete series on dvd https://www.secretsunsealed.org/Store... In this presentation, Pastor Bohr tackles the very controversial, yet important and necessary to discuss, topic of the equal, yet subordinate, role and function God designed for men and women in the marriage relation, as well as in church leadership. Using the models of how Jesus relates as subordinate to His Father and to the church as its head and "Husband", he shows clearly that just because ones position may be looked upon by some as subordinate, yet it is really a blessing, strength and glory to fill the place God created for each one of us. Sin first entered the universe when Satan demonstrated the principle of "me first" and "I want my rights" and wanted to be placed higher than God had placed him. Jesus, on the other hand, thought equality with God something not to be grasped but came down to serve us as a Man, showing that humility and putting others first is a blessing and not a curse. The relation of the Trinity to each other clearly shows that true love, peace, harmony and happiness comes when we each realize we have an important role to play in God's great design for society and that subordination does not mean inequality, inferiority, non-importance or grinding servitude under a exacting dictator. In the name of political and social correctness, and to the neglect of God's counsel in His Word, many today are pushing for the ordination of women to the ministry, no matter the cost, and the husband's loving and biblically proper authority over the wife is being eroded in both the world and the church. This sermon is a must-listen, whether you think you will agree or disagree. It will make you think and will challenge any pre-conceived ideas. I (the writer) changed my mind after listening to it. It is presented in the usual plain, logical, biblically sound and lovingly balanced style that Pastor Bohr is known for. He is not out to win a popularity contest, but to present the truth just as God gives it, and there are texts in the Bible on this subject that simply cannot be ignored, no matter if they may go against the grain of our modern, authority challenging, societal outlook. This sermon has to be listened to in combination with others in this series to get the full balance of what God is trying to teach both men and women on these subjects. A wise woman once wrote: "Like restless modern Eves,...in attempting to rise above her original position, she fell far below it. In their desire for a higher sphere, many have sacrificed true womanly dignity and nobility of character and have left undone the very work that heaven appointed them" (PP 59). It is always best to follow God's way, even if we have questions and do not fully understand everything, and the neglect of the principles and patterns outlined in this sermon are a large reason why there is so much confusion, unhappiness, and dissent in marriage, the home and the church today.
