Fly Tying an Ultra Buggy Nymph for Cold, Fast Rivers

Hi guys, In this video I’m tying an ultra buggy nymph designed for the first fishing days of the season, when rivers are still cold and trout often hold deep in fast water. This pattern may look plain at first, but the mix of materials gives it a very special character. It uses a very spiky, buggy style often seen in Czech and Slovak nymphs, with grey Hybrid Squirrel dubbing for the body and thorax, a touch of blue-green synthetic dubbing, and a strongly reflective UV orange rib. According to the article, this fly is intended for large, cautious fish in pressured rivers, and the grey-orange version works especially well where mayflies are abundant.
