NICARAGUA: La “TRANSICIÓN” Que NUNCA Fue

Check out another of our videos:    • Anastasio Somoza G.: El Padre De La Dinast...   Of transitions from socialist systems to so-called democratic regimes, Nicaragua is one of the most emblematic and stark examples. After 40 years of rule by the Somoza dynasty, Daniel Ortega and the Sandinistas came to power in 1980. But after 10 years of communist reforms and a civil war supported by the United States, the Sandinistas handed power over in 1990 to Violeta Chamorro. According to some, a democratic transition had begun that would serve as an example for the world. But history would turn out very differently, because 16 years later, the Sandinistas and the Ortegas would return to power and maintain it for another 20 years and counting. Why did a transition other than Sandinismo never materialize? How did they manage their return and continued hold on power? Join us as we explore the transition that never was.
