Cerevo Livewedge Inexpensive HDMI Video Switcher Review - Compare to Blackmagic ATEM
Find one on Amazon: http://lon.tv/ygofr The Cerevo Livewedge is an excellent alternative to the Blackmagic ATEM television studio. It accepts four HDMI inputs that can be switched via buttons on the device itself or through a companion tablet app. VIDEO INDEX: 00:02 - Hardware overview 05:26 - Tablet / iPad app overview and demonstration 06:35 - Audio mixing capabilities 07:17 - Picture in picture demonstration 09:12 - Chroma key 09:50 - Hardware button switching capability 10:28 - Streaming discussion 12:50 - Lack of titling discussion 13:29 - Conclusion and final thoughts The Livewedge costs the same yet is far less aggravating to configure and includes many features that are lacking on the Blackmagic product. Here are some of the major differences: The Livewedge comes with an analog audio input built in. The ATEM Television Studio requires the purchase of a separate analog to digital converter. The Livewedge also has built in audio delay functions in case the HDMI video is coming in slower than the analog audio. This is another feature lacking on the ATEM that requires an additional hardware purchase. Each of the Livewedge HDMI inputs has a video scaler, so game consoles, smartphones, and other devices can be plugged in directly without a separate scaler that the ATEM requires for those devices. The Livewedge also has the ability to stream to YouTube Live and other RTMP streaming services right out of the box with no computer required. Soon a firmware upgrade will be available for the Livewedge that supports recording to an SD card too. Both of those features require additional hardware on the ATEM. While the ATEM can only display one video input at a time, the Livewedge does have the ability to do picture and picture along with some rudimentary scaling and positioning. The only feature it lacks as compared to the ATEM are downstream keyers for titling and graphics bugs. There are still some rough edges on the product but overall it’s an excellent choice for YouTubers and others looking for a simple solution that works right out of the box. For the price this is the better product compared to the ATEM TV studio for aspiring content creators.
