The Legend of the Castle of Bradford
Bradford in West Yorkshire is famous for many things such as being one of the world's major centres for wool textiles in the 19th Century, but it is not famous for ever having a castle. Yet many people argue that Bradford once boasted such a fortress and have even suggested where it was built. This talk by Jonathan Crewdson, Director of the Neighbourhood Project, looks in detail at the arguments people have put forward supporting the idea Bradford once had a castle to see if they stack up. Is this a historic reality or simply wishful thinking? This talk is also the first in a series of lectures about the history of what is now Bradford City Centre including former neighbourhoods which have been lost and forgotten with the passage of time.
